Maps of Mount Holly and Environs

Now available for sale: Three 18th Century Maps: Two by Hessian Captain Johann Ewald showing Distribution of Crown Forces in Burlington and Mount Holly areas in 1776. Third, attributed to Ewald, shows Distribution of all Royal Forces in New Jersey prior to the Battle of Trenton, and believed to be a copy of the original prepared for General Howe, ca. December 13, 1776. First time these have been available outside of the diary. Suitable for framing.
Mount Holly, circa 1745: This map (scanned from The History of Mount Holly by Henry C. Shinn) shows the locations of The Mount and Iron Works Hill amid roads as they existed in the mid-18th century.

Directions to Mount Holly

Take Exit 47A off I-295 (or Exit 5 off the New Jersey Turnpike) to Route 541 south.

After three miles (two from the turnpike exit) keep going straight (the road is now High Street) instead of following the 541 ByPass that turns right at a Burger King. Follow specific directions below for the appropriate area.

Visitors: On Saturday, the closest parking to the Mount Holly Library (307 High Street) is along High Street and Bartram Avenue, 3/4 mile from the Burger King.
On Sunday, parking is also available in municipal lots west of High Street between Rancocas Road and Washington Street, and in the Mill Race Village shopping district.

Crown Forces Camp: The Mount Holly Library (307 High Street) is 3/4 mile from the Burger King. Turn left just before the library to unload, then park on High or Bartram Streets.

Sutlers: Sutlers and vendors will be set up at the Burlington County Prison Museum, one mile from the Burger King. Turn right just before the museum onto Grant Street to park behind the museum (very limited parking here).

Colonial Forces Camp: Continue past the Burger King, Library and Old Prison Museum through the second traffic light (at High St and Washington St); we'll have signs and/or people in Mill Race Village directing you where to park and set up.
If you're arriving late (from the Crossing dress rehearsal), you might want to avoid High Street and the crowds at the Prison Museum: turn right at the Burger King; then left at the first light onto Rancocas Road; then right at the first light onto King Street; then left at the first light onto Washington Street; then right onto Bispham Street and follow it into Monroe Street Park.
